Writing Whisper of the Golden Fate (aka, how I’m totally NOT panicking 👀)
Drafting the Throne of Dusaiga Finale ⚔️
Dear Fellow Little Ninjas,
So here’s a fun thing no one warned me about when I decided to write a duology (yes, that’s right—two books, no do-overs):
You have to actually end the story.
Book One (The Crown’s Soul Prophecy) came out. People read it. People had thoughts. People formed theories. It was magical, overwhelming, and mildly terrifying. In the best way.
And now comes Book Two:
Whisper of the Golden Fate
*cue thunderclap and a dramatic stare into the middle distance*
This is it—the final book in the Throne of Dusaiga duology. The big finish. The emotional mic drop. The part where all the secrets unravel, friendships are tested, betrayals hit like emotional sledgehammers, and Anima Soleri Psiche has to confront... well, a lot. Including herself. 👀
No pressure or anything.
Writing this sequel has been a mix of:
Epic soul bond drama 🌀 (And Svetlana making jokes about it obvy)
Magic doing magic-y things it was absolutely not supposed to do
Side characters trying to hijack the plot (looking at you, Elemental Gods!)
Me whispering “don’t be boring, don’t be boring” into my humongous cup of coffee
Because the truth is, Book Twos are scary. Especially when they’re also Book Finales.
You want readers to feel everything. You want them to turn the last page and stare at the ceiling whispering “wow” (or screaming—I'll take screaming). What you don’t want is the dreaded “meh.”
And I’m so terribly worried about a “meh.”
And I’m also finding it very hard to let these characters go (kinda not ready to say goodbye just yet 🥹)
But I’ve poured my whole soul into Whisper of the Golden Fate—twists, heartbreak, found family moments, and yes, a little hope too. And I might feel like I’m pulling teeth as I get to the finishing line, but I know it will be worth it. Anima deserves a good ending. A very happy one. And so do you, dear reader.
Thank you for coming this far with me in the world of Dusaiga. I can’t wait (might be mildly terrified) for you to see how it all unfolds.
Until then, I’ll be over here triple-checking my plot outline and emotionally bonding (*cough cough* falling in love with them *cough cough*) with fictional characters. Again. (You would do the same thing if you had to write anything Dionisio says or does, don’t even lie to yourself.)
Magically yours (with a sprinkle of panic), ✨
Letizia Firmani
P.S. If this ending breaks you a little… just know it broke me first.
